Jim Napier – 2023 Emiliani Project Fund Raising Campaign

Happy New Year 2023 to All!

2022, while difficult, was much more productive than 2021. However, because of your generosity last year, we were able to provide for the 170 children our Hogar in Bello and make progress on the new Hogar in Caldas.

The most exciting news is that we are entering a new phase in our journey. We will soon begin to have the first 20-25 children begin to live at the new home in Caldas, Hogar De Christo. We have enough fully functional infrastructure to support this many children and a few more, but it will take time to get staff on board and get things started with this many children. We have also coordinated with the local school district and will share some of our classrooms with the elementary school that is just outside the gates of the Hogar. This arrangement will allow close supervision and security for the children. This will require redoubling of our fund raising efforts to fund not only new and continuing construction to add even more children, but also to fund day to day operations of the Hogar. We are also establishing a “Sponsor a Child” program that will allow one or more individuals to provide the funds to support a specific child’s day to day expenses. The monthly requirement for this new program is still being evaluated as well as the method of posting pictures and biographical sketches of children that can be sponsored. For a myriad of reasons most of the children cannot be adopted.

During last year’s mission trips, a covered picnic area was added as well as the completion of classrooms 5 and 6. Some of the interior and electrical was completed after we left. We were also able to complete construction of the community bathroom which will be essential in the future. But the main reason for the December trip was to provide the children with a Christmas party and presents. The happiness on their faces is beyond description for the simple presents that they received. It was obvious how truly grateful they are for the smallest things. Pictures of these events can be found on the main web page: emilianiproject.org.

The children are doing exceptionally well with some graduating, getting jobs, and joining the larger community, while new children are being added. We have several “children” that were accepted to university and will remain at the home to help care for other children paying back and paying forward.

We ask that you continue your generosity for this worthy cause and invite you to join us this summer if you would like to roll up your sleeves and see what 20 or so dedicated volunteer workers can get done in just a week. You can also see how far your generosity goes in an economy that sees the average construction worker earns $1.65 per hour and material are commensurately priced. In short, one United States dollar will buy what costs $4.00 here in the States. The benefits to the children are life-long and the benefits to you are everlasting and simply cannot be put into words.

Thank you for all that you have done so far, accomplishments resulting from your amazing generosity have been truly incredible and thank you in advance for this year’s generosity. God Bless all of you and all that you do,

2021, while difficult, was much more productive than 2020. However, because of your generosity last year, we were able to provide for the 170 children our Hogar in Bello and make progress on the new Hogar in Caldas. As I mentioned last year, we got clearance to travel to Colombia in July 2021 for our first Mission Trip in two years due to the Pandemic.

During the July trip, the shell of Classroom number 3 was completed and the interior and electricity was added after we left. We were also able to start the construction of the community bathroom which will be essential in the future and finish the construction of the playground cover! During the December trip, the shell of Classroom number 4 was completed with the interior and electricity scheduled for completion before we return in July. The foundation for Classroom number 5 was also started. But the main reason for the December trip was to provide the children with a Christmas party and presents. Pictures of these events can be found on the main web page: emilianiproject.org.

Happy New Year 2021 to All!

2020 was a very difficult year for us all, especially for children everywhere. But because of your generosity last year we were able to provide for the 170 children our Hogar. Because of Covid-19 we were not allowed to travel to Colombia in the summer of 2020 to work on the new home (see pictures below). However, again, because of your generosity we were able to contract for the construction of the foundations of the buildings we had planned for 2020 and pre-position the materials for completion of the public rest rooms and even for some of the 2021 buildings.

The good news is that we already have clearance to return this July to complete construction on those structures that were scheduled for last year and those scheduled for this year. So, that puts us back on schedule.

The children are doing exceptionally well with some graduating, getting jobs, and joining the larger community, while new children are being added.  We have several “children” that were accepted to University and will remain at the home to help care for other children paying back and paying forward.

The Emiliani Project is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and nurturing orphaned and abandoned children. Their mission is to protect, nurture and educate orphaned and abandoned children so that they are able to live healthy and fulfilling lives, from childhood through early adulthood.

They are currently working on the construction of a new children’s home in Caldas, Antioquia, Colombia (30 minutes south of Medellin). When complete, it will be home to 160 children. They will be raised, educated and loved in a family community of children in the beautiful, peaceful, rural environment outside of the busy city.

The home itself will consist of 33 structures, to include dormitory-style bedrooms, commercial kitchen and dining room, library, school classrooms, gymnasium, activities room, seamstress shop, bakery, medical offices, administration/staff buildings, and a chapel. Construction on the home began early 2015. Now that we are well underway, current status on the construction efforts can be found on The Emiliani Project Facebook page.

Two years ago, The Emiliani Project underwent a fundraising campaign to build a new commercial kitchen and dining room for the home (below). This building is complete thanks to all of their support.

Last year, The Emiliani Project raised enough funds to build out a dormitory-style bathroom. Thanks to the support of donors, volunteers arrived on location last August and completed the major construction for this facility.

Now The Emiliani Project is targeting a home open date for the first 30 children of late 2020 / early 2021. But, they would like to add another critical piece before bringing children into the home. The kids need more school rooms.

The plan this year is to raise enough funds to purchase all of the building materials for the next classroom building. Those materials would be waiting for the volunteers to arrive in July to assemble and construct into brand new classroom. The best part is that you will be able to watch the progress throughout that week. You will be able to see exactly where your money went, and exactly how it benefits the kids.

I hope you are able to help us achieve our goal and thank you so much for your generosity! These kids are very lucky to have you participate in their lives!
